HYDROTHERAPY

Water Cure

Water is one of five basic constituent elements of the human body. When the body becomes ill, water can be used to make it well, Water is the universal healer. A combination of sun and water has amazing healing powers.

According to Fr. Kneip, the renowned German water-cure specialist, water can be used:

  • to cure all curable diseases
  • to remove and eliminate the impurities in the blood
  • to maintain the blood circulation intact after purifying the blood, and
  • to regain and retain the strength and vitality of the body.

Since time immemorial, water has been used for therapeutic purposes, all over the world. It was a part of the prevailing lifestyle then to have full immersion bath in bathing ghats, rivers, lakes and ponds. Over the years, dramatic changes in life styles brought about by industrialization and pressure for time and space, public baths disappeared giving room to in- house showers and the omnipresent faucets.

It is in this context that hydrotherapy becomes important. Now with the large bathing ghats becoming a thing of the past, you can enjoy the benefit of a full immersion bath at your home, and at your convenience.

These bath tubs are designed to meet the requirements of hydrotherapy at an affordable cost. They can be used by the sick as well as the healthy: the sick to get cured from their disease and the healthy to maintain their health. The tubs can used for Spinal bath, Hip Bath, Trunk bath and Sitz bath.

THE SPINAL BATH

This, of all the baths, is the most useful as a tonic for the nervous system and thereby a tonic for the whole body too. The best way to do it is illustrated in the diagram.

The bather lies down in the tub with his head propped up on the more slanted end of the tub, the back stretched flat on the bottom and lower part of the legs and the feet resting outside the tub. Beginners may use a towel folded to 2 cm thick as a cushion for resting comfortably. Once you have settled down to a comfortable position, fill the tub with water to a little over 5 cm deep. This level can gradually be increased to about 10 cms to suit your comfort.

Lie immersed in this manner for about 20 minutes. Sometimes, you may doze off, but this is quite natural and continue being in the bath till you wake up. You will feel much more refreshed after such a nap.

At the end of the bath, sit up and rub the back thoroughly with a dry towel, for the back to become warm. A spinal bath must be followed by a head bath

THE TRUNK BATH

The bather should adopt a posture similar to that for Spinal Bath, and fill the tub with bearably cold water just enough to immerse the whole of the trunk. While immersed, the bather should occasionally rub the immersed portions of the body with his bare hands or with a rough towel. Remain in the bath for about 15 minutes which may be extended to longer periods as desired. After the bath, dry yourself warm with a clean dry towel.

THE HIP BATH/SITZ BATH

This bath is taken in a sitting posture. Once the bather sits inside the tub, fill the tub with bearably cold water up to the navel. Remain in the tub for about 15 minutes. While in the tub, massage the abdomen from side to side and top to bottom in a circular motion with a small rough towel so as to agitate the internal organs and stimulate blood circulation. This has an amazing tonic effect on the digestive and excretory systems. This bath is not suitable for patients who are confined to bed. For such persons, pack is more suitable.

USING CAPITOL BATH TUB IN AYURVEDA

In Ayurveda, the tub comes under Avagabasweda classification of Svedana Chikilsa. This is regarded as an important line of treatment. Svedana treatment is generally performed before Panchakarma therapy. The tub bath is useful for cure from ailments such as lower-back pain, sciatic neuritis, paraplegica and piles. However, administration of the therapy should be carried out under the guidance of a physician.

 CAPITOL STEAM BATH CABINET

In ancient times Steam bath rooms have been a common feature in the Indian household. Today, in health clubs, public pools, spas, etc,, steam bath cabins have become an essential requirement. Also, steam bath is considered common water treatment therapeutic procedure in Ayurveda and Naturopathy.

Steam bath generates a condition of artificial fever (hyperthermia) to help a weak body from the attack of bacteria & viruses. It also increases the flow of blood from the inner organs to skin and opens up millions of sweat glands enabling the elimination of toxic waste. About a third of the toxins are removed by perspiration. Herbalized steam baths in Ayurveda, called swedanas are used in panchakarama chikilsa. Steam bath is acknowledged as one of the nine main therapies in modern naturopathy.
